The Fifth Annual KohOscars (Best of 2019)

The fifth annual KohOscars arrived, and they were the most competitive yet. This year was so incredibly stacked, and the nominating committee has come to a deliberation. Leading the pack with twelbe nominations is Little Women, followed by Jojo Rabbit with eleven and 1917, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Rocketman all with ten. The most nominated film without garnering a Best Picture nomination is Little Women. Most notably, this is the final year in which Best Remake/Reboot and Best Post-Credit Scene was awarded. Parasite won the most awards with four, becoming the first international film to win Best Picture, with the team being the first Asians nominated and to win the category. Bong Joon Ho became the first Asian man to be nominated for and to win Best Director. Lupita Nyong'o became the first Black woman to be nominated for Best Actress. Awkwafina became the first Asian woman nominated for Best Actress. Scarlett Johansson became the first woman to be double nominated in Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for her performances in Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit. Song Kang-ho became the first Asian man nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Parasite. Taika Waititi became the first Indigineous man to be nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Best Director, as well as the first person to be nominated for acting and directing in the same film. Thomasin McKenzie became the youngest winner in the Best Supporting Actress category at 19 years old.
